Job Description

JLJ IV Enterprises is a heavy civil contractor that specializes in utilities and road reconstruction projects for the city of New York and is well established with more than 25 years of experience in the industry. We are currently recruiting for a Superintendent, who will serve as the primary field leader responsible for running the job site, supervising crews and subcontractors, and ensuring the work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to contract requirements.

The Superintendent will work closely with the Project Manager and engineering team to plan and execute work activities including utility installation, roadway reconstruction, excavation, concrete work, and other public infrastructure improvements.

JLJIV Enterprises is located in Queens Village, NY with projects across NYC and this position would be an on-job site role. Key Responsibilities:

Field Operations Management

  • Direct and supervise all daily field construction activities.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to meet project schedules.
  • Develop and implement short-term work plans and sequencing.
  • Ensure construction work complies with contract documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Monitor productivity and adjust resources as necessary to maintain schedule.

Crew & Subcontractor Supervision

  • Supervise field crews, foremen, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities to prevent conflicts and delays.
  • Communicate daily work assignments and expectations to crews.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels for scheduled work activities.

Project Schedule Management

  • Work with the Project Manager to develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Identify potential schedule risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate inspections, deliveries, and subcontractor activities to maintain project timelines.

Safety Management

  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors on site.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and project safety plans.

Quality Control

  • Inspect work to ensure it meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Verify that installations are completed according to approved drawings and submittals.
  • Coordinate testing and inspections with third-party inspectors and city representatives.
  • Address deficiencies and ensure corrective work is completed.

Coordination with Project Team

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Field Engineers to plan work activities.
  • Communicate field conditions, production updates, and issues impacting the project.
  • Assist with resolving design conflicts or unforeseen site conditions.
  • Support quantity tracking and progress reporting.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with city inspectors, utility representatives, and other agencies.
  • Manage interactions with community stakeholders when work impacts public streets or utilities.
  • Ensure proper permits, traffic control measures, and site access are maintained.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of supervisory experience or equivalent in civil construction or heavy infrastructure projects required.
  • OSHA 30-hour Certification required.
  • Experience supervising water main, sewer, drainage and heavy roadwork projects strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, standard means & methods); owner procedures and standards; company policies, and union jurisdiction, labor agreements.
  • Familiarity with NYC construction standards and procedures.

Base Compensation:  Approximately $175K-$225K plus weekly car stipend, depending on experience .
