Overview

A large, well-established aerospace company in Irvine is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to support manufacturing and operations finance. This role will partner closely with operations, program management, and leadership to ensure accurate cost reporting, analysis, and compliance in a complex manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys digging into numbers, understanding how products are built, and improving cost visibility across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Analyze and maintain standard costs, including material, labor, and overhead
• Support month-end close related to cost accounting, inventory, and WIP
• Prepare and analyze cost variances (PPV, usage, labor efficiency, overhead) and explain findings to leadership
• Support inventory accounting, cycle counts, and physical inventories
• Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to improve cost accuracy and margins
• Assist with new product costing, make vs. buy analysis, and capital projects
• Support government and customer audits as needed (DCAA experience a plus)
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives around costing processes and systems

What We’re Looking For

• Strong understanding of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with standard costing and variance analysis
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations and engineering teams
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Clear communicator who can explain financial data to non-finance partners
• Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience required

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5–8+ years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing
• Aerospace or defense industry experience strongly preferred
• Experience with government contracting and cost compliance a plus
