Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care and Care Coordination
  • Monitor, examine, and evaluate patients' conditions in the day surgery setting, managing pre-operative and post-operative care for same-day surgical patients.
  • Assist with the care plan and take appropriate actions to promote patients' short/long-term outcomes and wellbeing.
  • Deliver care plan as outlined, applying independent judgment where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with and communicate patient care plans with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other staff, as appropriate.
  • Prioritize and coordinate optimum daily patient flow and patient experience in the day surgery unit.
  • Deliver safe and effective care according to policies and procedures, including pre-operative preparation, post-operative monitoring, and discharge education.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of patient assessment, changes in condition, care delivered, education provided, and any incidents or exceptions related to standards of care or compliance with hospital policy.
  • Patient Advocacy and Satisfaction
  • Listen to concerns, probe in-depth to understand the needs and concerns, and respond to patient needs in an appropriately timed manner.
  • Serve as an educational resource for patients and families on surgical procedures, pre-operative instructions, and post-operative care.
  • Communicate necessary patient information to family, licensed care providers, and other staff.
  • Embrace the concept of patient- and family-centered care to maintain patient, family, staff, and physician satisfaction.
  • Prioritize actions according to patient needs and provide input into the plan of care by reporting pertinent information involving the patient and family to the appropriate individuals in accordance with confidentiality standards.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

  • Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current RN License in the State of Georgia or Multi-State Compact (RN-COMPACT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Required: Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in an acute care setting. Day Surgery, PACU, or Perioperative experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to serve as an intermediary between patients, families, providers, and care team members.
  • Proficiency in prioritization, coordination, and time management in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Commitment to patient advocacy, satisfaction, and maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Ability to participate in performance improvement initiatives and support Shared Governance
