Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the Division of Tourism, the Staff Services Manager plans, organizes and leads the activities of the California Tourism Assessment Program and the California Welcome Center Program. The California Marketing Act provides for the marketing of California through an assessment of businesses that benefit from travel and tourism. The Tourism Assessment Program is responsible for the identification of those businesses and the collection of the assessment. The California Welcome Centers are the official State Visitor Centers offering valuable information and services to travelers. The Division of Tourism is responsible for the monitoring and coordinating of the 22 Welcome Centers in California.

Working Conditions

Hybrid: T his position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule and requires reporting in-person at headquarters in Sacramento up to 4 times a week. #li-hybrid

Statement of Qualifications:

Interested individuals must submit a SOQ. The SOQ must be in 12-point font, single-spaced, and no more than 3 pages in length. The SOQ must address the following in numerical order; do not consolidate responses:

  1. Please describe your knowledge and experience using and managing a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. 
  2. Please describe your experience in leading a customer success team. Include any knowledge of contact center leadership or software. 
  3. Describe your knowledge and experience with principles of accounting, financial software, and budget management - as it pertains to customer billing accounts receivable management, cash/lockbox management, and/or revenue recognition.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• At least 7-10 years of database management experience

• Attention to detail and meticulous documentation skills

• Possess computer techniques and tools for recording, researching, and processing data

• Background in Accounting

• Ability to effectively communicate with others in a polite and professional manner

Salary

IN MOST CASES, ALL NEW TO STATE EMPLOYEES MUST START AT THE MINIMUM OF THE POSTED SALARY RANGE. 

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). Under this program, employees’ monthly base pay is reduced in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025. The specific rate of pay reduction and corresponding leave credits are determined by the employee’s bargaining unit and classification. Please refer to the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) website  here for details regarding the applicable PLP 2025 provisions. The salary listed in this job advertisement does not reflect the pay reduction or corresponding leave credits associated with PLP 2025, which remains in effect through June 30, 2027.
