Job Description

Duration: 12 Month Contract

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor electrical or gas distribution systems (transformers, circuit breakers, switches) using SCADA systems
  • Respond to alarms, outages, and emergency situations; isolate issues and restore service safely
  • Manage system load to maintain reliability, including load shedding and restoration during peak demand
  • Perform switching operations to reconfigure systems, isolate faults, and restore service
  • Troubleshoot system issues such as equipment failures, voltage fluctuations, and power quality concerns
  • Analyze SCADA and operational data to identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities
  • Communicate effectively with field crews, dispatchers, and operations teams during routine and emergency events
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies
  • Maintain accurate documentation of outages, system events, and maintenance activities
  • Prepare reports and operational logs as required
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards, tools, and regulations
  • Support routine maintenance and inspections to ensure system reliability
  • Collaborate with engineering, planning, and maintenance teams on upgrades, expansions, and repairs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (preferred for engineering candidates)
  • Relevant experience in utility operations, distribution systems, or related engineering roles
  • Familiarity with power or gas distribution systems and associated equipment
  • NERC certification or other industry certifications (preferred or required depending on role/location)
  • Proficiency with SCADA, DMS, and other utility software tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, especially during emergencies
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends
